Yoga Revisited and a Giveaway

Once I finished my posts about yoga here and here, I was ready to be done with the whole ugly business. I don't like to talk about things that cause conflict. I like to smooth things out. I want to help both sides see where the other is coming from. Either that or sit in the corner sucking on my blanky until the two parties are finished duking it out.

HOWEVER

If I am forced to be one of the parties doing the above mentioned duking, I will stick to my guns. Er...my dukes. I will not be moved. Unless I am wrong. Then I might be moved.

HOWEVER

I have learned the wisdom in simply listening. I have had some wonderful opportunities to listen to some varied reactions to my yoga posts. I knew when I wrote them that there would be plenty who would disagree with me, and I am okay with that. Our world is colored with a million shades of opinion.

Here is my final word (maybe) on the subject: yoga happens to be one of those things not specifically forbidden in the Bible, so we must trust what we do know of the Word mixed together with the leading of the Holy Spirit and arrive at our own personal convictions. And that is exactly what this is for me--a personal conviction to not participate in yoga.

I have been hearing several of you say that you are also feeling convicted about doing yoga, but would like an alternative exercise that stretches and strengthens. I would, too! I've been doing some research, and have found a program that I would personally love to try. But rather than buy it for myself, I would like to give it to one of you who would be willing to try it out for me! Then you could send me a message telling me if you love it, or if it is for the birds. That way I can decide if I will ask for it for Christmas, see? Good plan. You will be doing me a big favor. 

So, here it is.
This program seemed to have better reviews on Amazon than the others out there. This one is based on Ephesians 6 and walks you through putting on the full armour of God each day. You can check out their website here if you are interested.

If you don't know what to say, tell me what you usually have for breakfast. This is the kind of pertinent information I would like to know about you. I always have yogurt and cereal with an occasional smattering of fruit. I'm glad I got that off my chest. I don't want to keep secrets from you anymore!

  3. What about Pilates? Or is that a form of yoga? I don't know . . . but I think its more of a stretchy-type exercise vs. cardio . . . This particular DVD looks good too, what with the devotions and all . . . and for breakfast, I had an egg scrambled with ham and an English muffin this a.m. because it was kickboxing day and I was hungrier than the norm . . .

  5. Rachelle, you are wonderful ;) God has been working on that commandment of His to "Honor Him with our Bodies" for quite a while. And its a life lesson that I feel I will be working on for "life" so whether you are a Yes Yoga or No Yoga person. I'm so glad you stirring up the conversation. period. :)
    And I'm usually a Fiber One (in bar form) & a piece of Fruit kind of girl. (not much time to sit and enjoy breakfast :) SO I stand & chase & hustle... during it. Thanks again.

  6. Rachelle, I love that blend you have of so serious all the way to so insane...great combo! Breakfast is usually an egg or half a bagel...sounds as boring as everyone else's breakfasts listed here. Oh dear!

  7. Wow! That looks great! I guess if I don't win, I'll have to guy it myself! Hopefully I can keep up with it better than Stormie Omartian's whatever.......she went so fast, I just threw my hands up and quit! Although I think I had Marty down in the floor too at one point and we were both laughing pretty hard and Caleb was only a year old and he kept saying, "No, No"

  8. Ha! I MEANT "BUY" it.......sheesh it's too late to be posting! You don't really want to know what I have for breakfast......as I'm on a liquid diet - so there you have it - I have a medically supervised shake! Vanilla with cinnamon and nutmeg.

  9. For these nauseated days, it's a Nature Valley granola bar, serving of fruit and a glass of OJ. All in small bites eaten very slowly laying in my bed. You are so generous to give stuff away!

  10. Hmmm....that sounds interesting having a workout based on Ephesians 6. I wonder if at the end of the workout you will be able to stand. :) Oh, and my breakfast of choice is a bowl of cream of wheat (plain please) on Mon - Fri. The weekends I get a little more dangerous and usually have a bowl of special k cinnamon pecan or get really wild and make pancakes. I'm such a rebel when it comes to breakfast food. :)

  11. I think anything that requires discipline is good for us - and I like the mix of scripture, meditation and physical activity. I know I need more of all of that in my life!

    Breakfast: eggs & bagel or toast, or cereal, or I go to Panera or Einstein Brothers for....a bagel. Boring and predictable, but I really do occasionally get something different. Ok - you have me. I get a different flavored bagel ... or a different cream cheese.

  12. I am also interested in knowing if pilates is yoga based. ANd my friend is doing P90X and it has something in it that has the word yoga in one of its exercises. Where did you start in your research? I know my friend would have no interested in bowing down to idols... but I don't want to say anything to her until I read the information myself. Maybe that's what I'll be doing during my girls' nap today. I love your blog and God has used it a couple of times to speak to me. Keep writing. And I eat cheesy eggs, a bagel or cheerios, depending on my kids' waketime, mood and events planned for the day.

  13. You are too funny. I'm wondering if this helps to trim down post-baby fat???

    I'm a cereal/oatmeal kind of gal. I will occassionally have a bowl of whatever leftovers I can find in the fridge, but really have to be in the mood for that. And COFFEE...always COFFEE!!!

  15. Wow, I've never heard of Wholy Fit but I would more than willing to try it out for you if I get chosen! I really really appreciate you posting your whole story and how God is given all the glory, Rachelle! I really really hope it works out for Nathan & I to swing by and see you guys on our way to Virginia for Thanksgiving!

  16. I might have gone and done it again and missed the giveaway by being tardy in reading your blog. I do have a good excuse, teacher! I was a little busy over the weekend walking and lugging heavy luggage...hey, maybe that's why they call it luggage because you have to lug it 17 blocks and all around the mall and then back again! Anywho, my favorite breakfast is a Panera bacon, egg and cheese sandwich eaten with a good friend in the midst of great conversaton. :)

  19. I agreed with your blogging on yoga so much I shared it with my women's group (13 women!). I keep meaning to research Pilates, which I've heard is completely different.

    Oh, and I had multi-grain Cheerios in almond milk for breakfast.
